The Principal of Liddy Associates Limited is John Liddy, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the petroleum industry. Prior to establishing the company in 2005, he was Technical Manager for the marine division of a major oil company, responsible for all technical aspects of their global business of manufacturing and marketing fuels and lubricants for the shipping and power generation industries. Before that he led research teams at the oil major's research centre in the UK, investigating combustion of various fuels including fuel oil, Orimulsion-type fuels, and coal. John Liddy holds B.Sc.(Hons.) and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He has participated actively in the development of international standards for marine fuels such as ISO 8217, working with bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Council on Combustion Engines (CIMAC), and has been involved with the development of European and IMO legislation to control air pollution from shipping. He has presented many papers at conferences in Europe and Asia, including the CIMAC Congress, the Singapore International Bunker Conference, Norwegian Shipping Academy Conferences, CEPSI (the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry for Asia/Pacific), and the European Base Oils and Lubricants Summit.
Liddy Associates is able to call upon the services of other Consultants with specialist expertise in areas such as refining technology, land-transport fuels specifications, analytical chemistry, lubricant additive technology and marine engineering, to work on specific assignments as required.
